The fighter jet that defined the Cold War era
The MiG-21 was one of the most important third-generation jet fighters, designed in the Soviet Union and widely used by the Warsaw Pact countries. In Poland, it entered service in 1963, and its subsequent variants remained in operation until 2003.
The aircraft also played a key role in the GDR, where it formed the backbone of the fighter aviation responsible for protecting a critical section of the Cold War air border, and in Czechoslovakia, where for decades it was the basic air defense fighter.
The MiG-21 was used not only in Poland, the GDR, Czechoslovakia and the USSR, but also in dozens of countries around the world. It participated in numerous conflicts in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, permanently entering the history of global military aviation as one of the most widespread and effective supersonic designs.
